Siefert, executive director of the Citrus County Economic Development Council, thinks Port Citrus is a great idea with huge potential.
But the port has been a hard sell with the public because the county commission’s initial interest included a port with large container ships and TSLs that haven’t been built yet.
“That was a mistake, in my opinion,” Siefert said. “It created a false impression in the county that people picked up on and said this is not a product we want in our county.”
